The Wychwood Players

The Wychwood Players are a thriving amateur dramatics group with an active membership of over 60 people.

Based in Shipton under Wychwood, they perform between two and four productions every season at New Beaconsfield Hall, which has been their base since it opened 12 years ago. There the Players are fortunate to have the use of state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment and to have excellent rehearsal facilities nearby.

Loyal audiences drawn from a wide area of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire attend for a range of theatre from Dramas to Pantomimes. Most years the Players entertain their audiences with a theatre supper evening when members not performing on stage become Waiters and Front of House Staff.

Occasionally plays are performed at other venues such as churches or festival stages. The Players pride themselves on presenting their audiences with a balanced programme of interesting theatre performed to a high standard. The friendly, cooperative atmosphere which is a hallmark of the Players encourages and nurtures members to develop their particular skills.

Over the years we have achieved a reputation for entertaining our audiences with a varied selection of quality shows performed by talented actors performing on beautifully lit sets, which have been constructed with loving care.In addition to plays and supper evenings we have a social calendar for members including theatre visits, garden parties, treasure hunts and other functions throughout the year. New members are warmly welcomed and are able to take part in many activities.

There are numerous opportunities for involvement in stage craft, backstage work or front of house. The only limits are those of time and energy

Currently we have around 50 people signed on for many of whom this is the first time they have sung in a choir. We sing all types of Rock and Pop songs and we have performed to local groups. Everybody says it is good fun and at the end of each session you will feel better for coming along.
